Customer Service Representative
- Respond to inbound customer inquiries via phone, email, and live chat
- Provide accurate information regarding products, services, and policies

Toter/Collector
Position Summary:
The Toter/Helper assists the collection driver in safely operating a heavy-duty sanitation truck while performing assigned waste collection duties. This includes helping to ensure safe driving practices—particularly when backing up or navigating traffic—and performing container handling tasks. The helper is responsible for positioning and emptying waste containers safely and efficiently, ensuring no spillage is left behind, and that containers are returned to the curb or driveway in an upright position with the lid closed. This role requires initiative, sound judgment, and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work in compliance with PWS safety policies, procedures, and all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions or actions to the Operations or Route Supervisor.
- Assist drivers with safe navigation of sanitation trucks, including backing up, traffic control, and route spotting.
- Collect and empty garbage, recyclables, and organics into refuse trucks during residential, commercial, or industrial route service.
- Spot and assist with unloading refuse trucks at landfills, transfer stations, or material recovery facilities.
- Adhere to all operational policies at disposal facilities, including landfills and transfer stations.
- Deliver exceptional customer service, displaying a positive attitude toward company, community, and customer service standards.
- Ensure proper collection from customer premises, which may involve retrieving containers from backyards or behind buildings.
- Maintain cleanliness at collection sites, ensuring no spillage is left and containers are properly placed post-service.
- Support additional tasks such as route coverage, community event participation, and delivery of carts or bins.
- Attend and participate in required training, safety briefings, and team meetings.
- Perform manual cleanup of scattered refuse or recyclables and assist with positioning large or heavy containers for emptying.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift, push, and pull heavy objects repetitively.
- Strong awareness of safety protocols and the ability to act quickly in emergencies or high-risk situations.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to exercise independent judgment and solve problems on the job.
Solid Waste Equipment Operator
Solid Waste Equipment Operator I is the entry-level classification in the Solid Waste Equipment Operator series. This position is responsible for the safe, economical, and efficient operation of a variety of solid waste equipment, including light vehicles (e.g., trucks with trailers, stake body trucks) and heavy refuse vehicles such as rear loaders. Operators may be assigned to tasks related to the collection, transportation, and disposal of refuse and recyclables.
Employees in this role perform physical labor in a variety of environments and are expected to operate assigned equipment with care, precision, and attention to safety. While supervision is provided, employees must be capable of exercising independent judgment and initiative when performing tasks. This role often involves interacting with the public and working in potentially hazardous conditions, requiring strict adherence to safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy refuse collection equipment, including rear loader packer trucks, and light vehicles such as stake body and trailer-equipped trucks.
- Collect and transport refuse and recyclables from residential and commercial sites to designated facilities.
- Perform heavy lifting and manual labor as required for loading and unloading materials.
- Conduct daily inspections and basic maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment to ensure safe operation.
- Drive a variety of vehicles, including manual transmission trucks, in all weather conditions and environments.
- Interact courteously with the public and represent the department in a professional manner.
- Follow GPS routes, collection schedules, and customer-specific instructions while ensuring timely service.
- Work closely with team members to ensure safe and efficient operations; report any route or equipment issues promptly.
- Maintain the cleanliness of collection sites and ensure containers are placed properly after servicing.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, including PPE use and traffic safety procedures.
- Participate in training for various equipment and safety procedures as required.
Distinguishing Features of the Class:
- This is an entry-level classification within the Solid Waste Equipment Operator series.
- Employees in this class may be cross-trained and occasionally assigned to work at different locations or on different solid waste functions.
- Advancement to Solid Waste Equipment Operator II is possible through noncompetitive promotion upon meeting specified performance, training, and experience criteria.
- Work is reviewed by a Solid Waste Supervisor through on-site observation and evaluation of results.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience: 1–3 years of experience in operating light trucks, construction equipment, or performing manual labor and maintenance duties in a related field.
- Licensing: Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required. Class A CDL preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in solid waste operations or related fields.
- Familiarity with operating rear loader, box trucks, roll-off trailers, and par-kan vehicles.
- Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles.
- Proven track record of safe, efficient performance in physically demanding roles.
- Strong commitment to safety and public service.
